Not an Auspicious Start

Being something of an insomniac when Icelandair's email came in at 01:30 hrs inviting me to check in I was quite excited. Sadly the excitement didn't last as "unknown error" kept occurring. I phoned up and was told "oh that often happens, just come to the airport and check in" grrrrrr! I then found out that 2 out of the other 4 on the same flight had the same problem so was a bit less worried.

On the face of it, not being able to check in online doesn't sound a huge problem, but coming home from Zambia last year we had to wait until we were actually at the gate before we were given our seat numbers or confirmation we could even sit together in the cabin we'd booked 10 months previously.  It makes for a very stressful time.

Anyway around lunchtime I contacted Icelandair again, this time via FB:
  • Hi Jenni. You should be able to check in 24 hrs before departure so please try again in a few minutes.
  • I was told in the email 36 hours ? Thank you I have now managed to check in. May I suggest you reword your email if in fact check in can only be achieved 24 hours before the flight.
  • Sorry about the misunderstanding! You are correct - it is 36 hours. Guess we need some more coffee at this end We see that there have been made some changes to your booking and you will be departing from LGW tomorrow instead of LHR.
  • NO I am departing from Heathrow instead of original booking Gatwick - please confirm.   (We'd had to change our original  booking as they'd altered the flight times to something totally unacceptable to us)
  • We are so sorry about this confusion! You are departing from LHR tomorrow 14th of March at 12:40. More coffee coming up! We have sent your itinerary to your email account in order to ease your mind.
What is it with all the coffee!!!!!
